Wedding entertainment is the single biggest lever on how the night is remembered. The food gets forgotten. The dance floor does not.

Here is how the three main formats actually compare in 2026.

    Traditional DJ

Strengths: unlimited music library, real-time requests, tight budget option. Weaknesses: low visual energy, reads generic in photos, no "live" moment.

    Live band

Strengths: cinematic energy, unforgettable for guests, great in a large venue. Weaknesses: limited song library, expensive, set breaks kill the dance floor.

Hybrid DJ + live musician duo

Strengths: unlimited library AND live-band feel, no set breaks, visually alive, one invoice. Weaknesses: newer format — you have to see a video to believe it works.

    What to ask any act

    1. Can you cover both the ceremony and the reception on one contract?
    2. Do you play requests in real time or from a pre-approved list?
    3. What is your MC style — full hype, or invisible?
    4. Do you have backup gear on-site?
    5. Can we hear you play something outside your promo highlight?
